California Union Boss, Rachel Marie Gleason, Pleads Guilty

Rachel Marie Gleason is the former Treasurer for the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Union (SMART) Local 1700 in Perris, California. After being charged with embezzling money from the union’s coffers, she has now pled guilty to the act. With the ease of access to large sums of money, this corruption is predictable in unions.

From the Department of Labor:

On June 30, 2021, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, Rachel Marie Gleason […] pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement and theft of union assets, in violation of 29 U.S.C. 501(c). The guilty plea follows an investigation by the OLMS Los Angeles District Office.
