Trump seems to be fine with outsourcing to RTW states

Kentucky AFL-CIO.org, AFT Local 1360, no date

Trump didn’t elaborate. But it sounds like he is fine with companies busting unions in free bargaining states and heading for “right to work†states.

Trump prefers RTW states.

“I like it [RTW] better because it is lower,†he told the South Carolina Radio Network before the Palmetto State primary. “It is better for the people. You are not paying the big fees to the unions. The unions get big fees. A lot of people don’t realize they have to pay a lot of fees. I am talking about the workers. They have to pay big fees to the union. I like it because it gives great flexibility to the people. It gives great flexibility to the companies.”

Lawyer: Union chief’s accuser claimed to be working with FBI

Boston Herald Online, May 05, 2016

Boston Redevelopment Authority board member Michael P. Monahan — upset because he thought the alleged victim was spreading lies about his pending divorce — is accused of threatening to kill fellow union member Michael Baker while wielding a baseball bat at the office of the IBEW 256 in Dorchester, telling him “you’re dead, your (expletive) kids are dead … and you won’t even see it coming,†according to court documents.

California unions crush bid to open their books

Fox News Online, May 05, 2016

California’s public employee unions used their muscle this week to fight back a legislative bid to open their books, killing in committee a bill that would force them to post online how dues are spent — and a second bill requiring a union vote every two years.

At the time, Mariam Noujaim, a long-time state employee, noticed a crossing guard at the State Capitol on an empty street that already had a tunnel built under it for pedestrians. A self-described cheapskate, Noujaim sensed a waste of money.

She later learned it was a make-work job provided to her union, the Service Employees International Union or SEIU. She demanded to see their books. They refused. She sued – and later got involved with the legislation.

“This is my case,” said Noujaim, an Egyptian immigrant. “Show me the money.”

Hatch: Employee Rights Act would make unions more responsive to members

Salt Lake Tribune, May 03, 2016

Our nation must work to promote the success of American workers and businesses in today’s global economy. The Employee Rights Act does precisely that by bringing our labor laws into the 21st century, creating choice and opportunity in the workplace, and protecting our nation’s greatest resource — the American worker. Congress should support these commonsense reforms and protect Utahns’ rights by supporting this critical bill.

Chicago teachers strike lacks support from crucial group

Washington Examiner Online, May 03, 2016

“I get a sense that our members would not be looking at a strike in May,” the union’s vice president, Jesse Sharkey, said. If a strike were to start before the end of the school year and last all summer, teachers would lose their last paycheck of the school year and possibly their health insurance until the strike is lifted.

Union members also say parents may not back the strike plans, because the union already had a one-day strike in April and there was a district furlough day in March that kept students out of school.

Why Unions Have No Right to Celebrate International Workers’ Day

The  Blaze Online, May 03, 2016

Throughout the world, May 1 is known as Labor Day (the holiday falls in September in North America). This holiday “is a celebration of laborers and the working classes†and of all the struggles they have gone through. Considering this, one can only wonder why unions celebrate it since they have been a net detriment to workers.

2  Big Labor Unions Share Efforts to Gain Power and Scale

NYTimes, May 05, 2016

The leaders of two of the nation’s biggest, most powerful labor unions — the Service Employees International Union and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees — are completing a plan that calls for unusually close cooperation in political campaigning, organizing and bargaining in states and cities across the United States.

Funding Ideology, Not Research, at University of California ‘Labor Institutes’

reason.com, May 06, 2016

One of the ongoing stains on the integrity of the University of California system is its publicly funded labor institutes. They are union-controlled “think tanks” that are about engaging in left-wing political activism rather than balanced thinking. They churn out one-sided studies that provide fodder for union political objectives. Their most recent efforts gave cover to California’s decision to boost the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2022.

Friedrichs case may be history, but unions not letting their guard down

workdayminnesota.org, May 04, 2016

Executive Director Tee McClenty said the union surveyed fair-share fee-payers and found many had no idea they weren’t paying full dues.
