On April 22, 2021, Scott Merritt was charged with embezzlement of over $50 grand. As soon as he was charged, he immediately pled guilty on the same day. Scott Merritt was the secretary for the Ironworkers Local 470 union in Jamestown, New York, and had been stealing money from the union for his own personal gain. Choosing to plead guilty that guilty is a sure sign that he knew he was up to no good, and the legal outcomes that he’ll have to face likely won’t be very good for him.

From the Department of Labor:

On April 22, 2021, in the United States District Court for the Western District of New York, Scott Merritt, former Financial Secretary of Ironworkers Local 470 (located in Jamestown, N.Y.), was charged in a one-count information with embezzlement of union funds totaling $50,850, in violation of 29 U.S.C. 501(c). He then pleaded guilty to the charge. The charge and guilty plea follow an investigation by the OLMS Boston-Buffalo District Office.
