ILA’s Jose A. Fernandez Cruz Put on Supervised Release

On November 16, 2023, in the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, Jose A. Fernandez Cruz, a member of International Longshoremenโs Association (ILA) Local 1740 (located in San Juan, P.R.), was sentenced to serve one year of supervised release. On August 21, 2023, Fernandez Cruz pleaded guilty to conspiracy to convert funds and falsify the records of an ILA Local 1740 benefit fund, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 371. The sentencing follows a joint investigation by the OLMS New York District Office, the Department of Laborโs Employee Benefits Security Administration, the Department of Laborโs Office of Inspector General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Attorneyโs Office for the District of Puerto Rico.
