Created by a disgruntled labor lawyer, the Freelancers Union sports a membership of more than 170,000 nationwide, and is committed to “building a new form of unionism through creative, cooperative, market-based solutions to pressing social problems.â€

It has an insurance company and a PAC associated with it, so it’s embracing the old form of unionism, too.
