Nintay Edwards was charged with embezzlement on October 1, 2021. Then exactly two weeks later on October 14, they pleaded guilty to the act. You can read more about the original charge here.

From the Department of Labor:

On October 14, 2021, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division, Nintay Edwards, former Financial Secretary of Steelworkers Local 694 (located in Richmond, Va.), pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement from a labor organization for embezzling $66,684 from the union, in violation of 29 U.S.C. 501(c). The guilty plea follows an investigation by the OLMS Washington District Office.

That’s $66,684 that was most likely collected from hard-working union members with the promise that it would go toward bettering the work environment. And instead, it seems to have gone into the hands of a corrupt union boss. We will have to wait to see what legal consequences Edwards will be handed. But one thing’s for sure – this kind of corruption should never have to be tolerated.
