250 Years of Liberty: Enter NILRR’s Right to Work Essay & Video Contest for June 2026
Two hundred and fifty years ago, the Founders boldly declared that governments derive “their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
That same principle of consent and voluntary association lies at the heart of the Right to Work. As America prepares to celebrate its Semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026, the National Institute for Labor Relations Research invites the next generation to reflect on this enduring American ideal through our June 2026 Right to Work Essay & Video Contest and regain the freedom that our patriots and Founders fought to obtain.
Why This Contest Matters in America’s 250th Year
The Right to Work is not merely a labor policy — it is a direct extension of the liberty proclaimed in 1776. It protects a worker’s fundamental right to earn a living without being compelled to financially support or join any private organization. In an era when we are collectively reflecting on our founding principles, this contest gives students a powerful platform to articulate why individual choice in the workplace remains essential to American freedom and prosperity.
