“SMART” Union Boss Rachel Marie Gleason Hears Sentencing

Rachel Marie Gleason is the former treasurer of the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Union (AKA “SMART”) Local 1700 in Perris, California. Back in June of 2021, the union boss pleaded guilty to embezzling money from the union. You can read more about it here. Then on October 4, 2021, she faced her sentencing. She must now serve 36 month of probation, as well as pay restitution for the amount that was originally stolen.

On October 4, 2021, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, Rachel Marie Gleason, former Treasurer of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Union (SMART) Local 1700 (located in Perris, Calif.), was sentenced to 36 months of probation. She was also ordered to pay $10,698 in restitution and a $100 special assessment. On June 30, 2021, Gleason pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement of union funds, in violation of 29 U.S.C. 501(c). The sentencing follows an investigation by the OLMS Los Angeles District Office.
